we are looking for a house and found a nice one in westchester county ny but it doesnt have a fireplace. We don't want the ones that have a metal chimmney or a stove.
I had a chimney fire in a pre-fab metal chimney and fire box fireplace a few months ago. Being concerned, I asked the contractor about replacing it with a masonary firebox and chimney if there proved to be meld or damage upon inspection. I'm in SoCal and was shocked that he said between $10,000-12,000. But, our chimney is internal (between the floors and walls) so it would require major reconstruction to accomplish.
How much would it cost to build a stone fireplace and chimmeny into a house that doesn't have one?
